Technology is not only for working, paying bills or keeping up with appointments. It can also help us explore, create, reconnect with the past and share enjoyable experiences with the people we care about.
On Thursday, 10 September, Arafura Consulting & Media will launch a new series:
Tech for the Fun of It
Simple, enjoyable things you can do with everyday technology—explained clearly and without jargon.
Created with senior Australians in mind, each article will introduce an enjoyable activity you can try using an ordinary computer, phone, or tablet. You will not need advanced technical knowledge or expensive new equipment.
The guides will include:
a clear explanation of what we are going to discover or create;
a short list of what you will need;
simple, step-by-step instructions;
something extra to try;
sensible privacy and safety advice;
help if something does not work as expected; and
a printable quick-reference guide.
We will explore ways to preserve family memories, discover music, identify plants and birds, visit fascinating places, try creative projects, stay connected with family and even have some fun with artificial intelligence.
Our first virtual adventure
The series begins with Revisit Your Past with Google Maps and Street View.
Have you ever wondered what your childhood home, old school, former workplace or favourite holiday destination looks like today?
Our first guide will show you how to find a meaningful place, explore the surrounding streets and, where available, view photographs from earlier years. You may be surprised by what has changed—and what remains familiar.
Join us from Thursday, 10 September, and discover a more enjoyable side of everyday technology.
Tech for the Fun of It is an Arafura Consulting & Media series designed to make technology more approachable, useful and enjoyable—one activity at a time.
